JOHN EMANUEL 2008
In 2008 I returned to St Ives to visit and film John Emanuel in his studio.
It was
winter and, in terms of the weather, the day we chose turned out to be the worst
possible. A rain storm blew in off the sea. The rain came down continuously in a
torrent and powerful gusts of wind lashed against the magnificent, newly installed,
windows looking onto Porthmear Beach.
Rather than concentrating on John’s paintings,
the film shows a more private aspect of the artist — sketch book pages, monoprints
and drawings: just a fraction of the creative work that occupies him when he isn’t
painting.
